Reminders of Jesus

My mother in law Lois recently found a stuffed animal lamb that Raleigh had when he was born. Its a Gund and plays "Jesus Loves Me". The boys sat it on the kitchen table (because that's where stuffed animals go - - right??) and Will cranked it up at dinner tonight. He said, "Mom - this reminds me about Jesus. Lets make this our new tradition. We'll play this every night so we can be reminded about Jesus." I was getting ready to get his milk when he began his prayer, "Lord, thank you for this day. Lord, thank you for letting us think about you with this little sheep here...that's fake. Amen."

Prayer for the night

"Lord, we just love you and respect you. Lord, you talk to us in the Bible and we talk to you by saying our prayers. Amen.

Smart Will or not....you be the judge!

Example of Smart Will: He currently has a double ear infection with one of his ears really hurting him badly. I asked him how it was on the way home and he said, "Not too good, Mama. My ear just keeps getting dumber and dumber."
????
He then went on to say, "My ear is getting dumber and dumber. It thinks I'm laying down but I'm really sitting up!"
!!! Oh, that's what he meant. I think that is a really good way of trying to explain that your equilibrium is off - - especially for a 5 year old!

Example of not: Earlier Will was leading us in a cheer, "Give me an A. Give me a U. Give me an S. What does that spell? ASU!"

Now...you be the judge!

What??

I got a Lego Advent Calendar at the store today so Will has been talking about Christmas. He said, "Do you be-member what we do every year...what Jesus wants for his birthday?" Ummm...I think he meant "What God Wants For Christmas" - a Christmas Eve tradition for us.

He then said, "I know what he what he wants. He wants us!!....Why does he want us?"

Will is notorious for telling me something and then asking a question about it.

He then asked, "I wonder how old Jesus is now? I be-member that he had a short orange beard. And now we live in the olden days...or is it the new days?"

What????

I believe that Will enjoys hearing himself talk and has no filter from his brain to his mouth.. *lol*

Shriners again.....

I am sitting at the Clarion after an evening of eating at Red Robin and going to Target...waiting for Will to get up so that we can go to Starbucks and then to the Shriners hospital. I am SO thankful for these routines with him and that he finds all of this fun and exciting still.

I remember the night Will was diagnosed with scoliosis. He was only 6 months old. It was my birthday and as I was nursing him I just cried and cried and cried. Why?? Why did this have to happen to my sweet sweet Will?

Now, I am thankful that Will was my child chosen to have this. If this was Raleigh who was having to do this...I'm afraid it would be a much different story. I don't think Ral would want all of the routine each time. He would want to stay at a different place, go to bigger and better restaurants, and do something "fun" each time. And then....there is the whole brace issue. If it was RALEIGH wearing the brace....oh my, part of me doesn't even want to imagine. I think the best way to describe it is : if it was Ral wearing the brace, he would make sure that we were just as miserable as he was everytime it was on. It would be a struggle. He would try to get out of it any way possible with lots of excuses. We'd probably have to get a straight jacket to go over it b/c I'm sure he would take it off nightly. That's just how Raleigh is..... :) and I love it!

Will, however, LOVES the routine of Greenville. Going to the same restaurant, going shopping, then going to the hotel is FUN for him! There is almost a pride in his voice when he tells people about going to the Shriners and his scoliosis. Im so happy that he isn't ashamed of it. I know that this may change as he gets older - but for now we "build it up" with him that he is special, his brace is cool, etc. etc. Probably the thing Im most thankful for is how well Will has done with his brace. Will NEVER complains about wearing it. Not even once. He never asks not to wear it at night,no matter what the situation. One night Will and Ral slept on their floor b/c they were afraid of the lightening. Just looking at Will on the hard floor in that brace made MY back hurt. I don't think the thought ever crossed his mind that he could have asked to take it off (or just removed it himself). I am already starting to "prep" him for getting casted again soon for a new brace. He is excited about the Buzz TV, staying at the Clarion and eating at Red Robin, and then the 2 days of fun, fun, fun whenever he is an inpatient for 2 days after his brace is made.

Blessed.
I know I still have moments of anxiety over Will's scoliosis. I still get upset and angry and even do the "Why Will" questioning.....
but for now I will say THANK YOU LORD that of my 2 children, Will is the one to have this.
Now, its off to Starbucks and the Shriners. We still have several traditions left to do this morning..and I know Will is going to be excited about each one :)

meditation...august 11

Laura Bland Combs (1): Will just told me he is meditating, then said, "Mom. When you meditate you need peace and quiet and you listen to the sounds of the earth. Thats what meditate is."
Hmmmm..maybe I need to tell them I'm meditating more often!

special msgs from friends

Laura Bland Combs: Thankful for precious friends who have sent me msgs by FB and text reminding me of their prayers. Kara Reece Smith really touched my heart when she told me, "We're all holding you up to Jesus as high as we can. He's with you. There's only one set of footprints in the sand right now."

VBS

Laura Bland Combs: Will has been learning so much in the 2 bible schools he attended this week. Today he learned about Jesus dying on the cross and told me. "The men were really mad at beat him. He had lots of boo-boos and couldn't even get a band-aid!"

July 16

Laura Bland Combs: Home from camp. I felt great when Raleigh ran to me and gave me a hug. Then he said, "I'm so glad you're here! Im ready for a big juicy burger!" We got donuts in Winston for dessert tonight. When I gave Will his, he told me, "You're my sugar mama!" Hmmm....I get the feeling that my kids are like pets. They ony see me as a food source :)

Consumers

Laura Bland Combs: Will just told me, "You need a Verizon 4G. Do you want to know why? B/c it helps you track down Disney stuff, thats why you need one." My boys are so influenced by commercials! They are forever telling me things I need from TV. Ral says we need Kaboom b/c now it cleans 30% better. He also told me we need a Sunsetter retractable awning.

July 29 - Will wisdom

Will's wisdom for the day: "Jesus is God's greatest gift to us. His number 2 gift is the Statue of Liberty." "I love this nursing home, Mama. You want to know why I love it? Because my Grandma Mary is here." :)

bird poop

: Will's knowledge amazes me. He just told me, "Mom, I know what bird poop looks like....do you want me to tell you?" LOL

Food in heaven?

Will just told me, "You're a really good cook but the heavenly Father is better. You know, there is a bread of life up in heaven."

August 15 prayer

Will's dinner prayer tonight:"Lord, thank you for this beautiful day. Let my brother be careful during football practice. Lord, let us all be faithful to you. Amen."

Prayer

: Tonight's prayer from Will: "Lord, thank you for this wonderful, wonderful, WONDERFUL day. Thank you for letting us go to school again. And thank you for Kindergarten. Thank you for you and this whole wide world. Amen."

Will's first day

On Monday Will told us that he was in the top 12 of his class. We are SO proud of him ~~ especially since there were only 5 students there that day! *lol*

Will prayer

Will's prayer tonight "Lord, thank you for this wonderful day. Thank you for this wonderful supper. Lord, please let Grandma Mary not die when Hurricane Irene comes. And Lord...let Hurricane Irene die soon. It just keeps getting weaker and weaker. Amen"

Who is this kid?

Ral brought home a "listening survey" he filled out at school. It listed 12 scenarios and he had to score himself 1-5 with a 5 being "I listen all of the time." Ral gave himself a 5 in every category!! :) I am happy to say, however, that so far this school year he is almost right on the money!

Prayer

Another Will prayer: "Lord, thank you for this wonderful day. Thank you for our cat being really really funny. And Lord, you are loveable. You are so so so so loveable that I can feel you loving me right now. " Amen

What song is that?

Laura Bland Combs: ‎"Change the bee ride...I can't believe you forget me for tonight..."
This is Will's version of "Dreamweaver" from Toy Story 3...

What's for lunch?

Laura Bland Combs: Will said that they are having "janitors choice" tomorrow at CC for lunch. So...I wonder if Steve or Boyd will be making that decision?! *lol*

Laura Bland Combs

Laura Bland Combs: Lord, thank you for this day. Lord, we just praise and honor you..and Lord, please let the rapture happen soon. Amen

One of Will's prayers

Laura Bland Combs: "Lord, thank you for this day. Thank you for letting Grandma Mary be safe in that hurricane. Lord, your grace amazes me. Amen."

Trying to get caught up...

I finally just realized that I can post my FB posts to Blogger....so expect lots of short tidbits as I try to get things transferred over :)

Ego

Will has such a good view of himself. There is NO problem with this kids ego. After the first day of school he informed me that he was the best dancer, the best singer, and the best drawer in Kindergarten. He also told me that if you are good in K, you get a green light...but because he was so good, they made a gold light just for him!
I've asked both boys who they think is the best kid in their class. Who is the smartest? Who is the nicest? etc etc. According to Will, he is the best kid at everything in his class.
Now that he's started flag football his ego continues to grow. According to him, his team has won the last 2 games and he scored 25 touchdowns last week and 20 touchdowns this week. I wonder why the story I hear from Mike is that he made one touchdown....for the other team!!??

I guess I'm glad Will thinks so highly of himself!

A Day For Firsts

Hello everyone and welcome back to blog. Amazing how facebook can kill the energy you normally would put into blogging.

Today will be a huge day. Raleigh will play his first real game of contact football. The Watauga White will play E. Ashe in a game of third and fourth grade tackle football.  More news and maybe some pictures as the day goes on.

It will be very exciting. It's football and it's Raleigh. Will is going to have this day very soon. But today is Raleigh's day.

Who are your ancestors?

Everyday on the way home I ask Raleigh what he learned in school today. Today he told me that he learned about his ancestors. He then went on to tell me that he can trace his ancestors all the way back to the Greeks.
I was impressed!

His final comment was, "Everyone can trace their ancestors back to the Greeks....and their anbrothers." :)
